Polar Bear Swim


POLAR BEAR SWIM DAY graciously supported by Sault Search and Rescue, Tom’s Hot Tubs & Pools, McDougall Energy Inc. and Transprovincial.


"Polar Bear Swim Day" has become a complete day of family fun at Bellevue Park. 

Family activities include Sleigh Rides, Tractor Shuttle Rides sponsored by North Shore Tractors, PUC, Motel Association and CTV, Snowmobile Rides, Snowshoeing sponsored by Superior Asphalt and Markings, Sault College Canoe Races sponsored by Flakeboard Company and Canteen Services by Heart Stoppin Food and Sweet Thangs.

The highlight, of course, is the Bon Soo "Polar Bear Swim" a chilling, one-of-a-kind event in Canada.   Each year, over two hundred  swimmers brave the icy waters of the St. Mary’s River and are safely supervised by the expertise of Sault Search and Rescue.   Participants have come as far as Austrailia, Mexico and Brazil not to mention the zany students of Sault College and St. Mary’s High School.

Each swimmer receives a certificate as a memento of the event.   Medals are awarded for  Largest Group, Oldest Female, Oldest Male, Farthest Travelled and Best Costume.

The infamous "Polar Bear Swim" has become a major media event and an attraction that is, by far, the most popular and crowd pleasing!    Participants can look for themselves on Soonews or Sootoday or browse our photo gallery, a sure to be "Captured Moment"!!!
